UNFALLNAVI

The Corona pandemic has severely restricted us over the last two years. Be it in our private lives or in our professional lives. Trips had to be canceled and rescheduled or even completely cancelled. A new situation for all of us. But after more than two years of the pandemic, people have learned to adapt and to plan and arrange their vacations more flexibly. Since there are high security precautions in air travel, many people switch to their own cars. Then, long-distance travel is often no longer the order of the day, with regional or national destinations being preferred.

But even on vacation with your own car, some things must be considered so that it does not come to problems on the road. We have created a checklist that guarantees you won't forget anything important for your next road trip.

Basic equipment

In addition to the mandatory items, such as a high-visibility vest (tip: it is best to have as many high-visibility vests as there are passengers), first-aid kit (important: check validity) and warning triangle, items such as a jumper cable and a tool kit can also help in the event of unforeseen problems. We also recommend having a tow rope on board, as well as a spare key for the vehicle, spare oil, flashlight and a cover for the windshield. Depending on where the trip is going, the vehicle can be protected from frost in extreme cold and from excessive heating in extreme heat.

So think about the following things:

  1. High visibility vest (one for each passenger - in some countries this is even mandatory!)

  2. First-aid kit (check validity before trip and replace if necessary)

  3. Warning triangle

  4. Jumper cable

  5. Tow rope

  6. Tool set

  7. Spare key

  8. Reserve oil

  9. Flashlight

  10. Cover for the front windows

Around the car

Before departure, make sure that your vehicle can easily survive the upcoming trip in its current condition and that it is and remains roadworthy. An inspection of the car before departure is useful for this. Some things can easily be checked by yourself. If there are any abnormalities, we recommend that you take the vehicle to a workshop. If you do not know which workshop is suitable for this, then simply write to us in our live chat.

You can easily do the following work yourself:

  1. Check oil level

  2. Check tire pressure and adjust if necessary to the load with luggage and all occupants

  3. Check brake fluid

  4. Check coolant level

  5. Check windshield wiper water

  6. check all lights

  7. the validity of the TÜV should in any case outlast the duration of the trip

  8. Fill up

  9. Interior and exterior cleaning

Documents

When traveling across borders in or outside the European Union, all documents should also be carried completely and validly. This includes, of course, the two most important documents: a valid driver's license (international, if applicable) and valid identification documents for all passengers. When traveling abroad, especially if the destination is outside the European Union, you should also always carry the green insurance card. This must often even be shown upon entry, so always keep it handy. In the event of an accident, the green card makes it much easier to settle the claim, as you can use it to prove that your insurance coverage is also valid abroad. Due to the Corona pandemic, vaccination certificates with valid Corona vaccinations or negative test results may be requested on a random basis. These can be carried digitally or in paper form.
